U13s Scottish Cup 2nd Round Edina Hibs v Hutchison Vale Colts
'A tougher match would have been hard to find for this second round match in the Scottish Cup. Edina Hibs sit top of the table after 4 games, unbeaten, with the Colts one of the teams they had defeated. But anyone at that league match would have recalled a superb Colts performance that day, leading twice before conceding what turned out to be the winner.
Once again the Colts got off to a flyer and put together a half full of superb passing and incisive movement which produced chance after chance, none of which, sadly, were converted. Against an Edina side always likely to take advantage of such generous play, the Colts were punished not once but on two separate occasions. Unbelievably, both in terms of the effort the boys had put in and the quality of their play, the Colts trailed 2-0 at half time a real testament to the quality of Edina's finishing.
It was difficult to see where the Colts could go in the second half following that first half, but if they were feeling sorry for themselves, there was no sign of it. At last a glimmer of hope and following some great lead up play, Lee scored to put the boys right back into the game. With the play flowing towards the Edina goal, time was ebbing away as the tie approached full time. Nick however had other ideas and, now playing up front, took a pass to feet, skipped past the defender before lofting a shot with his left foot across the keeper and into the far corner. The boys celebrated and the tie went into extra time. 2-2 Full Time.
Both sides were beginning to get tired but neither could make the crucial breakthrough as extra time progressed. Then with penalties looming, ironically the ref took a hand and awarded Edina a penalty with moments of the game left, which was duly converted and despite putting so much into the game their Scottish Cup run was over. 3-2 AET'
