HUTCHISON Vale girls' teams came home from the Gothia World Youth Cup tournament in Gothenburg, Sweden, clutching some silverware.

After unfortunately losing out in the main competition, the Ford's Road club's under-17s and under-13s tempered that disappointment by going on to win their respective B Cup finals, both against opposition from the host nation.

al, Lizzie Arnot gave Vale an early lead with a sizzling left-foot strike but opponents Torns IF pulled one back as the teams headed for half-time.

Vale changed things around after the interval and started to utilise the electric pace of Dhana Wilson.

With ten minutes to go in a closely-contested and evenly-balanced game, Wilson latched on to a long pass over the Torn IF defence and lobbed the ball over the head of the on-rushing goalkeeper and the striker was celebrating before the ball was even in the net. Vale had to survive a last-minute corner kick but held on to their slender lead to lift the cup. In the under-17 final, the girls put on a superb display of football and ran out deserved 2-0 winners over Robacks IF with both goals coming from Sarah Ewens.

Many of the teams in both age groups were physically stronger and taller than the Edinburgh girls but both teams had club physio Laura Hamilton keeping them fit to play
